On June 10th, the University of Memphis and the City of Memphis came together to break ground on the new Leftwich Tennis Center. The $24 million facility will feature 24 outdoor and 12 indoor courts that will be the hub of community tennis in Memphis and also the home of the Memphis Tigers Men’s and Women’s tennis programs.

USTA Tennessee’s Executive Director, Michael Chamberlain, was an honorary guest who spoke at the ground-breaking event. He quoted, “The sky is the limit at this state-of-the-art facility that will serve the local tennis community, collegiate athletes, and players from across the region. The opportunities to promote and develop the growth of tennis will be endless here.”

Todd Carlson, National Manager, Infrastructure Services, United States Tennis Association said, “The Leftwich Tennis Center will be one of the premier venues in the country and is an example of an amazing collaboration between all of these partners to bring this project to life. The USTA, USTA Southern and USTA Tennessee provided technical and business solutions assistance for this project, and the USTA is excited to see the generational impact the facility will have on the health and wellness of the Memphis community.”

The project is expected to be completed in 18 months, with the goal of opening in Fall 2022. Click here to see a conceptual walkthrough of the new facility and join in on the excitement!
