Nashville, TN - Nashville Native, Brian Baker had his appeal approved by the International Tennis Association's Olympic Committee to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Baker is a Belmont Alumn and was also the Men's Tennis Assistant Coach there for five years.
As a Junior he reached the No. 2 spot in the world, but injuries have hindered his adult career. Baker has had 11 surgeries in the span of 15 years, but he refuesed to hang up his raquet. Baker's highest ever ranking on the ATP tour was 52 in 2012.
Baker along with three other U.S. tennis players, Steve Johnson, Denis Kudla,and Jack Sock, were on the provisional entry list released by the ITF last month. Their participation was contingent on either playing Davis Cup or a successful appeal.
Baker, Johnson, and Kudla had their appeals approved. The 26th-ranked Sock is taking part in the Davis Cup quarterfinal against Croatia this week. Johnson is No. 25, Kudla is 102nd, and Baker 179th.
