Memphis Memories

Over one hundred fifty players took to the courts at the RCJC May State Open Championships last weekend in Memphis. This event was one of three state open championships that took place throughout the year in Tennessee.

2Roughly three hundred matches (singles and doubles) were played over the span of the three day tournament hosted by the Racquet Club of Memphis. The facilities at Memphis University School were also used for tournament play.

USTA Tennessee would like to extend a huge thank you to Tournament Director, Jay Horne, and his fabulous tournament staff at the Racquet Club of Memphis for organizing and hosting a spectacular event.

In addition to the Junior Qualifier, there are four “Open” state championships and two “Closed” state championships in Tennessee. Players from outside of the state may enter and play in the Open state championships, which awards Tennessee Level 2 points. Closed state championships may only be entered and played by junior players in Tennessee and they award Tennessee Level 1A points. All state championships award Southern Level 4 points as well.

Now, look ahead to your schedule of remaining state championships in 2016:

September 2-4: Tennessee State Closed Junior Clay Court Championships (Knoxville)

September 23-25: TN State Open Hard Court Junior Championships (Nashville/formerly the State Closed in July)

November 11-13: TN State Open Junior Championships (Chattanooga)

November 25-27: TN State Indoor Open Junior Championships (Knoxville)
