Free 10&Under Circuit Concludes at Knoxville Challenger

IMG_1844

Through a partnership between the Tennessee Tennis Patrons Foundation and USTA Tennesssee, the McKinney-Dahlstrom10 & Under tournament circuit series was offered in cities across the volunteer state this fall. One day tournaments were held in Memphis, Jackson, Nashville, Chattanooga and Knoxville at no cost to participants, thanks to the sponsorship of the TN Tennis Patrons Foundation.

"The Foundation is excited about the success of the McKinney-Dahlstrom 10 and Under Circuit. Our goal was to provide a free tournament in five locations throughout the state for orange ball and green ball players. The orange ball division offering was intended to be an entry level event for players that wanted to try their first tournament. The boys and girls finalists from the green ball divisions advanced to a finals weekend in Knoxville in conjunction with the Knoxville Challenger" said Elizabeth Henderson, President of the TN Tennis Patrons Foundation.

The culmination of the McKinney-Dahlstrom circuit was held November 10 & 11 at the Knoxville Racquet Club in conjunction with the Knoxville Challenger.  10&Under finalists participated in a team competition and clinic with University of Tennessee Knoxville varsity players, served as player escorts and coin tossers before the semifinals and finals,  and partook in a Net Generation demonstration before the semifinals of the Challenger.

Willia McLinney and Jean McKinney Dalstrom were sisters who grew up in Knoxville.  Jean had a great love for the game of tennis and became quite an accomplished amateur player in the 1930's and 1940's. Her love for the game continued throughout her lifetime. Jean preceded Willia in death; Willia honored her sister upon her own death by providing a gift to the Tennessee Tennis Patrons Foundation to promote the love of game throughout  Tennessee in Jean's memory.
