2018 Tennessee Annual Award Winners

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – December 4, 2018 – USTA Tennessee announced today the recipients of its 2018 awards, which recognize those who have made outstanding contributions to the sport of tennis. Winners will be recognized during the 2018 USTA Tennessee Annual Meeting, January 25-26, 2019.

Tennis would not flourish in the state of TN if it were not for the organizations, volunteers, players, officials, tennis enthusiasts, parents and many more who serve and work to promote the growth of tennis. Every year, USTA TN is proud to honor those people who go above and beyond both on and off the court.

Selected winners were nominated as candidates by the members of the TN tennis community.

 

Below are the USTA TN award recipients:

CTA of the Year – Moutain Empire Tennis Association (Tri-Cities)

Official of the Year – Andrew Rogers (Chattanooga)

Educational Merit Award – Catherine Sakarapanee (Metro Nashville Public Schools)

Tennis Professional of the Year – Robert Cameron (Knoxville)

Volunteer of the Year – Sarah Moseley (Blountville)

Family of the Year – The LaLance Family (Murfreesboro)

Special Tennis Event of the Year – Davis Cup (Nashville)

Outstanding Wheelchair Player of the Year – Michelle Wilson (Sevierville)

Outstanding Adult Player of the Year – Fran Chandler (Jackson)

Adult Captain of the Year – Melinda Brown (Franklin)

Junior Team Tennis Captain of the Year - Dana Forsyth (Knoxville)

Adult Tournament of the Year – Alex Welford Tennis Classic (Memphis)

Junior Tournament of the Year – USTA National Girls 16s Clay Court Champs (Memphis)

Local League Coordinator of the Year – Sara Barnett (Jackson)

Junior Team Tennis Coordinator of the Year – Jill Speight (Murfreesboro)

Junior Boy Sportsmanship Award – Foster Pierce (Nashville)

Junior Girl Sportsmanship Award – Georgia Fischer (Brentwood)

Most Improved Boy Player of the Year – Jaxon Lamb (Greeneville)

Most Improved Girl Player of the Year – Reagan Welch (Greenbrier)

Most Outstanding Boy Player of the Year – Sean Presson (Knoxville)

Most Outstanding Girl Player of the Year – Maeve Thornton (Knoxville)
