2018 Music City Classic Wheelchair Tournament hosted in Tennessee

One of the longest running wheelchair tournaments in the US, the Music City Classic, hosted by the National Wheelcats, took place June 22-25 at Centennial Sportplex in Nashville, Tennessee. This year the Music City Classic hosted a Russell Rodriguez Retro Tennis Night  pre-tournament player party. The party was a mini-tennis event with participants dressed in their best retro/hippie gear.  All entry fees were donated to the Russell Rodriguez Fund  https://www.gofundme.com/russell-rodriguez-memorial-fund  Russell Rodriguez was a long-time Wheelcats adaptive sports competitor and avid tennis player.

Forty-five players from all across the US traveled to compete in this USTA Letter Division Tournament.  Winners by division are as follows:

A Singles:   Shelby Baron d. Stu Contant 6-1, 6-1

B Singles:    Jennifer Mak d. Jose Gomez 6-7(5), 6-2, 1-0 (8)

C Singles:   Troy Weise d. Arne Roaldsand 6-1, 6-3

Established in 1957, National Wheelcats has been celebrating over 60 years of providing sports activities for individuals with disabilities. With only one exception (2 bounces), wheelchair tennis is played with the same rules as abled body tennis.
