October 9, 2017 – Tennessee and Arkansas rose to the top of the 2017 USTA Southern Mixed Doubles Sectional Championships, played Oct. 6-9, in metro Little Rock, Ark.

Tennessee was well represented with Memphis having two champions and Knoxville reaching two finals. The host, Little Rock’s metro area, had two champions and a finalist. Hattiesburg, Miss., also had two champions.

The tournament was played at two facilities: The Burns Park Tennis Center in North Little Rock, Ark., (tournament headquarters), and Rebsamen Tennis Center in Little Rock, Ark.

There were 69 teams with approximately 630 players who competed in nine levels: 18 & Over – 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, 10.0 Combined and 40 & Over – 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0 The Southern champions will compete at the Copeland-Cox Mobile (Ala.) Tennis Center in the USTA League National Championships, scheduled for November.

Teams consisted of at least three men and three women and each match consisted of three courts. The combined NTRP rating of the two players on court had to equal the level’s number. Most teams began play in a round-robin format with the winners of each flight meeting in the finals Saturday and Sunday. The Adult 18 & Over 10.0 and Adult 40 & Over 6.0 levels only played a round robin.
