2017 Junior Qualifying

The 2017 Tennessee Junior Qualifying events, June 1st-5th, concluded with exciting finishes in Murfreesboro and Chattanooga. Over four hundred juniors from across the state took to the courts to compete for highly sought after spots in the Southern Closed events taking place June 10th-16th. Nearly one thousand singles and doubles matches were played over a span of four days between the two events. The tournament dedicated Friday, June 2nd as Pride of Tennessee Day.

The Chattanooga Qualifying event had a special flare this year through a partnership with the Sean Karl Foundation. In addition to the junior tournament, the event offered a community wide clinic led by UT and Sewanee coaches and college tennis players—Sydney Campbell (Vanderbilt), Hunter Reese (UT), Ryan Lipman (former Vanderbilt player and current assistant at Auburn), Maxx Lipman (Florida), Haley Carter (UNC), and Samantha Caswell (UTC). Other events included a college forum and player dinner, an adult doubles tournament, and exhibition matches, featuring Bobby Reynolds, Maxx Lipman, Hunter Reese, and Sydney Campbell.

A silent auction was also held as fundraiser for the SKF with featured items such as an Roger Federer autographed dri-fit shirt, a Nashville Predators autographed hockey stick, a John Isner autographed racquet, an autographed Australian Davis Cup Team Shirt (signed by Rosewell, Hewitt, Krygios, and others), Babolat and Wilson racquet packages, and Quarterfinal US Open Tickets. In addition, Auburn, UT, Vanderbilt, Alabama, and Florida all donated tennis packages, including clothing, camps, etc.

The Sean Karl Foundation was established to honor and remember Sean Karl, a former #1 nationally ranked junior player and previous winner of the Junior Qualifying, by helping children who are fighting Ewing Sarcoma and pediatric cancer. The Foundation was able to raise $15,000 through donations and special events they offered at the Qualifier.

USTA Tennessee would like to give a special thanks to tournament staff and volunteers in Murfreesboro and Chattanooga, along with the Sean Karl Foundation, for administering excellent events for our junior players.

Congratulations to the Finalists, Semifinalists, and the Finalists of the Consolation
