Youth Progression Appeal Process

The Youth Progression Appeal Process is designed to ensure that children, ages 7-10, are playing in the appropriate skill level and have a positive tournament experience as they enter into competitive tennis. A beginner player starts in Orange Level 2, advances to Orange Level 1, and finally graduates to Green. Players are asked to accumulate stars and trophies to advance to the next level. Once a player accumulates enough points to advance out of Green, he/she has completed the Youth Progression path and can now play with the yellow ball.

There might be scenarios in which you, as a parent/guardian, or coach, feel that this progression is not the right fit for your child. You might feel that your child needs to advance through these stages of progression at a different timeframe than the USTA Progression System allows. This is where the appeal process comes in.

We ask that you spend a few minutes to fill out the appeal form which contains the rationale behind the appeal and what level the parent wishes his/her child to be moved into. Once this form is submitted, a parent/guardian will be contacted within 2 business days by USTA TN staff with the decision on the appeal. The appeal will be reviewed by several USTA experts within the Youth Progression system keeping special attention to the parent/guardians request and understanding what is best for the child’s progression.

Our goal is to give you, the parent, the best option available for your child’s tennis development while trying to be as accommodating as possible to the needs of every parent/guardian.
